Chinese medicine has a rich cultural heritage and plays an important role in the development of traditional medicines worldwide. In supporting the Hong Kong Government’s policy of Chinese medicine development, the Hong Kong Jockey Club has pledged a donation of HK$500 million (or about US$64 million) and partnered with the Hong Kong Government to establish the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine Limited ("HKJCICM as a subsidiary of the government-funded Applied Science and Technology Research Institute Company Limited.
As the strategic local focal point and the Government-designated Research and Development Centre for Chinese medicine, HKJCICM plays a key role in supporting the Government in implementing policies related to Chinese medicine, and encouraging innovation and technology development in the Chinese Medicine industry. In spearheading value-added developments, HKJCICM respects both tradition and innovation; through enhancing science and evidence-based developments, quality control, information, exchange, and technology transfer of R&D deliverables, the portfolio of work at HKJCICM contributes towards the modernisation and internationalisation of Chinese medicine.
Since its inception, HKJCICM has engaged in various projects which have provided the Institute with invaluable experience in applying a combination of western and Chinese medicine approach towards Research & Development and clinical research. HKJCICM has also firmly established its presence and business and technology networks locally, in Mainland China and overseas. Entering a new phase of development, HKJCICM will continue its near, mid, and long term objectives across the provision of sector-relevant information and strengthening developments in quality control and the safe use of Chinese medicines. Through the funding and management of selected Research & Development projects, HKJCICM aims to protect the intellectual properties generated from these projects for commercialisation. Furthermore, through expanding reach and partnerships with keys stakeholders within and outside Hong Kong, HKJCICM looks forward to contributing towards the continued evolution of Chinese Medicine for research and application, and promoting the ongoing development of the Chinese Medicine industry in Hong Kong. |
