Project Background
IBS is a very common functional gastrointestinal disorder characterized by recurrent abdominal pain with disturbance in bowel habit, with high prevalence of IBS in Hong Kong and elsewhere. As a common disorder, there is no effective remedy in conventional medicine. A Chinese herbal formulation was tested in double-blind and placebo-controlled trial alongside scoring of improvements over quality of life by patients. The change in brain activation was also evaluated using functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI); technique.

- An Integrated Research Clinic involving western clinicians and Chinese medicine practitioners for diagnosis and clinical research (using a validated questionnaire for quality of life assessment)
