Business Model for Value-added Sector Development
- To expand our global reach with stakeholders and provide them with resourceful and value added CM-relevant information across the research and market continuum
- To orchestrate development efforts on worthy sectoral areas through HKJCICM initiatives as identified by stakeholders
- To upgrade industrial practices on quality control of CMs through technical development and applications
- To generate value-added intellectual properties (IPs) through CM natural product applied research and to achieve commercialisation of deliverables
Supported by our dedicated team of professionals with shared value and core competency in project and information management, IP and regulatory affairs, business development and corporate communications, we seek partnership and will work closely with project stakeholders and our technology partners.
Technical Intermediary
The CM Laboratory is strategically positioned to centrally co-ordinate and support HKJCICM initiatives for CM sector development and funded projects. For synergy, we foster collaboration and will leverage on its expanding network of technology partners. Drawing from its research competency in CM pharmacognosy, phytochemistry, analytical development and quality control, the areas of work under development include:
- Sourcing & authentication of Chinese materia medica
- Analytical methodology development
- Development and production of chemical markers
- Standardization of CM formulations, e.g. granules
- Preparation of high quality CM-based extracts and purification of bioactives for CM natural product applied research and applications

CM Information Portal and Exchange Platform
A CM information portal equipped with search engine will be developed with an objective to provide our stakeholders with information for reference on:
- Research and applications of contemporary medicinal plants
- Chemical and DNA databank for authentication and quality testing of CMs
- Technical manuscripts
- Intellectual property and regulatory affairs
- Market information
For positive engagement, HKJCICM will provide people-based and web-based exchange platforms for fellow stakeholders (registered through a simple on-line registration process) to seek and exchange views on policy and technical issues relevant to CM sector development. Expert groups or seminars will also be convened on topical subjects. The views collected may contribute towards new or enrich on-going HKJCICM initiatives or project activities.
CM Natural Product Applied Research
Through funding of CM natural product applied research, HKJCICM will incubate worthy projects for added value developments of IPs and commercialisation of innovations across the CM, pharmaceutical, botanical, health foods, nutraceutical and personal care sectors.
IP Trading / Technology Transfer
HKJCICM aims to contribute to Hong Kong's development of a new generation of technology-based economic activities through providing a neutral, centrally co-ordinated and effective avenue to turn patents, technologies, know-how, project deliverables or other forms of tradable IPs with market potential into applications. Through project incubation, we aim to generate value-added IPs for further applications and achieve technology transfer or licensing of technology, strategic alliances, joint venture, spin-off or other form of commercialization.
Business Opportunities & Expression of Interests
Interested research organsiations and companies are welcomed to submit initial proposals for expression of ideas or intent to collaborate or partner. Shall the ideas be turned into proposals after exploratory discussion, HKJCICM will negotiate win-win IP and commercialisation arrangements, taking into account the financial and intellectual contributions of each party.
