Hong Kong Traditional Chinese Medicine Industries Expo for the 10th Anniversary Celebration of the Establishment of the HKSAR
Hong Kong Traditional Chinese Medicine Industries Expo was held on 6-8 July 2007 by 8 major Hong Kong Chinese Medicine Associations at New World Plaza, New World Centre, Tsim Sha Tsui. The event echoes the 10th Anniversary of the establishment of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) and 2007 Hong Kong Shopping Festival. Officiating at the opening ceremony were Dr. Lam Ping-yan, Director of Health and the presidents of the associations. Speaking at the ceremony, Mr Tommy Li, Convener of the organizing committee and president of Medicine Merchants Association said that the Expo showed that the “made-in-Hong Kong” brand has served as the best marketing tool. Given Hong Kong’s high reputation for its products, customers seeking higher quality products of Chinese medicine undoubtedly would buy in Hong Kong.
The Expo presented 14 product sales booths by famous enterprises such as Eu Yan Sang (Hong Kong) Limited and Wai Yuen Tong Medicine Holdings Limited etc. It also included:
- Precious species of herbs
- A mini Chinese herb garden
- A jumbo dummy of Radix Ginseng
- List of animal organs currently protected under the Protection of Endangered Species of Chinese Medicine such as bear’s gale, rhinoceros horn and musk
- Display panels showing the development and transformation of the Chinese medicine industry in Hong Kong over the past ten years
- Old tools for preparation of traditional Chinese medicines
- Chinese medicated diet Seminars

Besides, the organisers also co-hosted the first recruitment fair for the industry. “The Expo has definitely helped the general public better understand the development of Chinese Medicine, and it received positive feedback from the public and tourists,” said Mr. Li. |
