SFDA List of Chinese Medicine Containing Stimulants in China
To step up the control on stimulants, State Food and Drug Administration (SFDA) had recently conducted a review on all the drugs listed on the “2007 Stimulants Catalog”. The review also covered Chinese medicines which contain substance included in the list, such as clenbuterol, strychnine, hydrochlorothiazide, dehydroepiandrosterone DHEA, morphine, ephedrine and etc.
As instructed by SFDA, relevant monitoring departments and enterprises should ensure label reading “Athletes Cautious” (in Chinese) be tagged on the medicine package or specified in the instruction of use. Self-censor needed to be imposed by pharmaceutical companies with reference to the “2007 Stimulants Catalog”. For pre-printed labels (or products already distributed), additional tags with proper endorsement should be added to the packages. Pharmaceutical companies should also take proactive measures to inspect their products on shelf and recall substandard products as necessary.
Relevant provincial/local government departments and agencies were also urged to regulate and monitor the implementation of the new measures as a priority issue. The complete list of controlled stimulants can be found on SFDA website (http://www.sda.gov.cn/WS01/CL0055/28492.html)
