SATCM Promotes Wider Application of TCM Clinical Techniques
In order to promote the clinical practice of Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) and its convenient and practical way of diagnosis and treatment, the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine (SATCM) has initiated a new national promotion scheme including a number of TCM clinical skills as key promotion items. To date, SATCM has updated and published the list three times in May 2006, October 2007 and July 2008 respectively. (Item Lists in Chinese only)
The lists cover a wide range of special TCM treatment techniques selected from different parts of the country. They are mainly applied in the treatment of common diseases with high incidence rate. These techniques have been clinically tested with scientific evidence and efficacy. Characterized by safety, effectiveness, low cost and easy administration, they are particularly suitable for application by healthcare providers at local level, and can help relieve patients of the heavy burden of medical expenses.
The techniques are divided into 3 sub-categories, specifically tailored for Rural Area, Urban Community and Patients with Special Medical Needs. Training courses are provided by designated medical/research units enlisted by SATCM. In addition, training materials have also been published by 21st Century Global Network Education Centre of Chinese Medicine and are available both as text books and DVDs.
