China Honours TCM Masters
In June 2009, the Award Ceremony for TCM Masters was held in Beijing. 30 TCM doctors were conferred the title "TCM Master" jointly by the Ministry of Human Resources and Social Security, the Ministry of Health and the State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine. This was the first time for the award of national title to TCM doctors, and was regarded as an important step in nurturing high-level TCM calibers, which in turn would foster an ideal environment for the further development of TCM.
TCM masters from different times had made extraordinary contributions to the development of TCM for thousands of years. Apart from their academic and professional achievements, they also geared and led the continuous development of TCM with vision and diligence. Since the founding of the People’s Republic of China, a group of outstanding TCM doctors had also devoted themselves to the growth of TCM. In addition, commitment from central government and supportive policies had provided a favourable environment for the growth of TCM experts. These include measures such as national seminars, postgraduate education, apprenticeship programmes and accreditation of local/national TCM masters. Some distinguished TCM doctors were also elected as Members of China Academy of Sciences and China Academy of Engineering.
The first TCM Master titles go to (in alphabetical order): Ban Xiuwen, Cheng Xinnong, Deng Tietao, Fang Hechian, Guo Ziguang, He Puren, He Ren, Li Furen, Li Jiren, Li Yuqi, Li Zhenhua, Lu Guangxin, Lu Zhizheng, Qamba Chinlai (Tibetan medicine), Qiu Peiran, Ren Jixue, Surongzhabu (Mongolian medicine), Tang Yiuzhi, Wang Mianzhi, Wang Yuchuan, Wu Xianzhong, Xu Jingfan, Yan Deqing, Yan Zhenghua, Zhang Qi, Zhang Canjia, Zhang Xuewen, Zhang Jingren, Zhou Zhongying and Zhu Liangchun. Human resources is the key to TCM development. By expanding and building the team of quality TCM doctors, TCM will continue to prosper and contribute to the health and well-being of mankind.
