Chongqing Promotion Fair
for Hong Kong R&D Centres and Technology-Support Organisations
The governments of Hong Kong Special Administration Region (HKSAR) and Chongqing City had joined hands to organize a promotion fair in Chongqing for Hong Kong research & development (R&D) centres and technology-support organisations on 10 December 2007. Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine (HKJCICM), together with five R&D centres and other technology-support organisations, took part in the fair and met with over 100 Chongqing counterparts in the related sectors, such as Chinese medicine (CM), electronic communication and nano-technology. The fair provided a fine opportunity for networking, information sharing and exploration of potential collaboration between the two sides.
Dr. Kevin Xu, Deputy Director of HKJCICM attended the fair and gave a thematic speech on the recent development of HKJCICM and chaired the round-table discussion on collaboration of CM sectors between the two cities. He also briefed participants, including government officials from Chongqing Science and Technology Commission, Chongqing Academy of Chinese Materia Medica as well as representatives from CM industry and CM academic institutes, of the up-to-date progress of HKJCICM projects, their competitive advantages, and the respective R&D deliverables.
In addition, Dr. Xu explained to participants global CM developments in Hong Kong as well as in the international market and addressed the queries of Chongqing representatives. Meantime, Chongqing representatives expressed keen interests in the products of two prominent HKJCICM projects, namely myocardial ischemia and women health and reached out for further cooperation. Combining the competitive advantages of Chongqing (e.g. in CM resources, GAP and drug manufacturing) and the HKJCICM (project incubation for application or commercialization), both sides would achieve synergy through collaboration. The Chongqing Promotion Fair was very fruitful in strengthening the ties between the two cities and paved the road for further collaboration among relevant sectors.
