Hong Kong Exploring Business Opportunities for Chinese Medicine
International Conference & Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine & Health Product
The International Conference and Exhibition of the Modernization of Chinese Medicine and Health Products (ICMCM) was held at the Hong Kong Convention and Exhibition Centre from 16 Aug to 20 Aug, along with Food Expo and the Hong Kong International Medical and Health Care Fair. The event had attracted around 680 exhibitors, bringing Chinese medicine and medical technology and health care services from all over the world to Hong Kong. Yang Wei, Deputy Director- General, Department of Drug Registration, State Food and Drug Administration; Paul Fan Chor-Ho, Chairman of the Chinese Medicine Council of Hong Kong; Wang Xiaopin Deputy Director General, Department of International Cooperation, State Administration of Traditional Chinese Medicine; Abraham Chan, President of the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA) et al. officiated at the Opening Ceremony.
Canada and Hong Kong Parties Signed Memorandum of Understanding on Advancing CM
This year marked the 6th ICMCM jointly organized by the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (TDC) and the Modernized Chinese Medicine International Association (MCMIA). Visitors included 35 buying missions with representatives from more than 500 companies. Members of the Life Sciences Mission of Canada had signed four Memorandum of Collaboration with Hong Kong-based research institutes and enterprises. Parties signing the MOUs were: the Hong Kong Jockey Club Institute of Chinese Medicine (HKJCICM) and Canada's Advanced Foods and Materials Network (AFMnet); the Hong Kong Health Food Association, MCMIA and the Canadian Health Food Association (CHFA); Zigen Pharmaceutical Ltd and Bell Alliance International Inc. Both local and Canadian media anticipated that the cooperation would not only facilitate information sharing and exchange among all parties, but also promote technology transfer and enhance the return on investment.
CM Conference At ICMCM 2007
A CM Conference took place from 16 Aug to 17 Aug under the theme of ¡§the Integration of Scientific Research and Development in Novel Chinese Medicines. The conference invited leading policy makers from government, leaders from CM industry and experts from the academia to present R&D projects on pharmacological and clinical studies and the latest developments in Chinese medicine, including product branding. As one of the co-organisers of this landmark event, several HKJCICM-funded project researchers attended the conference and shared their experience in CM quality control and new product development with local, mainland Chinese and overseas counterparts.
Internationalization of Chinese Medicine
The Exhibition was represented by a total of 195 exhibitors, more international than last year. Apart from Hong Kong, the Chinese mainland, Macau, Taiwan, companies from Canada, Japan, Korea, New Zealand, Malaysia, Singapore, Poland and Switzerland also took part in the event. For ease of sourcing, eight group pavilions had been set up, featuring the offerings of Korea and Japan, as well as those from Jilin, Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Qingdao and Ningxia in the Chinese mainland.
ICMCM had covered a wide range of topics in CM and health products, including product research and development, regulatory developments, technology transfer, commercialization and marketing, hence promoting the further development of Chinese Medicine in Hong Kong and the international market.
