Changchun Scientists Successfully Constructed Ginseng DNA Library
As reported by Changchun Daily, the provincial technology development project on “Ginseng Standardization and Serial Product Research and Development” undertaken by Changchun Institute of Chemistry, the Chinese Academy of Sciences（ICCAS）has received acceptance local experts.

The project has attained a leading standard within the nation in various research areas like ginseng standardized cultivation, ginseng DNA library research, ginseng quality standard and fingerprint research, and Chinese medicine development, etc. It is understood that this was the first time that scientific researchers in China succeeded in constructing ginseng DNA library, ginseng leaf cDNA library, ginseng hairy roots cDNA library and American ginseng cDNA library; this was also the first time they completed the test in major DNA sequencing in ginseng and American ginseng.
After seriously reviewing the documents and information submitted, the experts agreed unanimously that the research group has completed all the tasks as specified in the statement of planned tasks and attained the expected technology indicators. The technology documentations are complete; the data reliable and the analysis and conclusion correct.
As for ginseng standardized cultivation, the research group has studied the results of purification and rejuvenation of ginseng and American ginseng, selected and cultivated the fine varieties of ginseng and American ginseng, proposed a comprehensive planting technology for ginseng and American ginseng in compliance with green food standards. As for ginseng quality standard and fingerprint research, the research group has set up a standardized preparation technique for ginseng and American ginseng slices, constructed the fingerprints for ginseng, red ginseng, American ginseng slices and set up a quality standard for ginseng, red ginseng, American ginseng crude slices, and compiled all the technical information for ginseng crude slice batch number reporting. As for the research on the processing technology and the efficacy of ginseng, the research group has created a pressurized extraction method in deriving the chemical components from ginseng and American ginseng. Using modern analyzing technology, the research group has explored the rules for compatibility of compound prescriptions, herbal prescription composing principles and base materials of Chinese medicines related to ginseng.
Commercialization of Research Results
It is understood that the research group has put the research results into practical use and developed land of over 1,300 hectares for cultivation, occupying over 30% of the total area for ginseng production in the province and contributing over RMB800 million in profit. A number of high-end ginseng products are also developed.
